Irish whistle
So there is a book from the library: An Irish Whistle book by Tom Maguire
Why do we talk about it?

A few weeks ago, I shared a few Hungarian folk songs, usually the furulya has also 6 holes, like the Irish Whistle.
I studied on Yamaha flute or furulya in kindergartner. I was also showed how to make nadi sip, that is a natural, plant based flute for folk music. I had a few like that, and I tried them out.
Last Sommer, I ordered some basic flutes or furulya online, they are basic, not as high level as a Yamaha, but quite nice to teach kids for the basic.
It takes time in the 21st century to teach kids to play instruments...
We had a lot of piano basic studies last Autumn. And last Summer, also several occasion about drum.
We also practice some days the harmonica.... we have also guitar at home and much more...
Not everybody is brave to send the kids to music school, my kids had time as very young kids in music school.... than we stopped going there... I prefer to use music as a relaxation, and what I experienced in the music schools, mostly mommies who tried to over compensate the fact, that they do not have time for their kids, and it made them feel guilty.
In the Asia blog, I had a course about mothers, who could not find any happiness in life, only if they work in a workplace.
I have no problem with working in a workplace, but I also know, how to have good time out of those possibilities.
So if you send your kids to music school as you feel guilty, it is also a style of life.... not mine...
So you do what you can, I do what I can...
So today, I also introduced my kids another instruments, and they loved it....
Next time, about that one as well.
Today about the Irish culture a bit more.
In Denmark, there are a lot of people, who are first, second and third generation Irish people.
There are Irish pubs, and families, who carry some level the connection to the old habits.
The book, An Irish Whistle book by Tom Maguire, starts with a picture, where a young boy around 10years old max plays the flute or Irish whistle.
This boy could be a Hungarian boy as well from the 20th century or before.
The Hungarian version has also 6 holes. As I said, I learned on flutes, that had more holes, also in the back.
So for me, it is a bit new to have less holes.
But I am ok with it, I already tried it out, and made some improvisations.
I used to have a flute with two lines and a lot more holes. I bought it from an old lady from the North of Sjælland.
She sold me a flute, that was commonly used in the Balkan, not in the North in the Baltic.
She lived in the last street of the city, her house was the last house of the street. She had a good location, she was the closest to the fjords, so any time, she could enjoy the song of the sea.
When you think about the Danish folk songs, a lot of times, they are religious songs.
In Hungary, if you check folk songs, with instruments or without, they have every day life happiness, struggles and solutions.
They also go around the weather, politics, historical facts, pain and more.
If you want to find anything similar in the Danish singing books, you must look for songs from the Farøe Islands, those songs are full with emotions, and the melodies are influenced by the power of the nature.
So, why in Denmark, people are not fan of the folk songs?
As most of them do not carry any healing power.
Yes, you need the healer in the song. When you can open up you wounds, your heart, your eyes.
Most of the Danish songs in the folk singing books are collected to close your heart. make your heart hard, and it is also a way of life.
But if there is not healing, than it is the start of the death.
In this book, An Irish Whistle book by Tom Maguire, one of the basic song to start is called:
Frere Jacques, that is Master Jakob in Danish. My first son was only 4 month old, when I bought a small keyboard to play basic Danish songs for him.
This was also part of the list. It is super easy to remember, and play on keyboard and flute or whistle as well.
The other super easy song is the Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.
Today I played it on tongue drum.
I also tried out another 4-5 songs on the tongue drum, I also improvised on it.
Today, both of my kids tried out the tongue drum, they liked it. My older son even followed the note and played the Happy Birthday song.
The book, An Irish Whistle book by Tom Maguire, has basic introduction to music, and the Irish whistle.
The more interesting, that I will discover, those songs at the end of the book, that are without lyrics.
Today, I managed to purchase on Irish Whistle, that came with nearly the same book. It has the same author, and the inside are very similar, covering the same topic.
A few years ago, I also bought a music book from CBS, Wilhelm Hansen Musikforlag: Sangbogen greatest,
Today, I started to transform the notes to the tongue drum, like Cyklesangen by Bernhard Christensen.
